How We Help

We provide assistance through individual counseling, support groups, workshops, and educational programs.

Individual Counseling

We provide confidential individual counseling for members of the legal profession for a variety of life issues.  Our services are free, voluntary, and confidential. We can meet at our office, by telephone, or often at another location that feels best for you.  We can also provide referrals to other resources when needed. Call or email to set an appointment.  You can read more about our services in our We Offer Hope and Help section.

Support Groups

The OAAP provides confidential peer support groups for lawyers, judges, and law students, including support groups for recovery from substance use problems, support for members of marginalized or underrepresented communities, support for practicing law with ADD/ADHD, and support for practicing law with anxiety or depression.  Some groups are ongoing; others are time-limited and offered periodically during the year.  For more information about our groups, call the OAAP and ask to speak to an Attorney Counselor. You can also look at our Upcoming Events section for additional details.

Workshops/CLEs

The OAAP offers workshops and CLEs on many different topics to law firms and law-related organizations. The workshop topics include developing balance in your personal and professional life, identifying and dealing with problem substance use or mental health issues, developing healthy habits, and finding meaningful work. In addition, OAAP Attorney Counselors are available to speak to your local bar association, specialty bar, or law firm on a large variety of topics, many of which qualify for CLE credit. For more information about our workshops and presentations, call the OAAP and ask to speak with an Attorney Counselor.  To view our calendar of events and workshops, look at our Upcoming Events section.

Our Publication - inSight

inSight includes educational information, personal stories, information about OAAP events, and other resources.  inSight, published quarterly, is mailed to all active members of the Oregon State Bar. If you are not an active member of the OSB and would like to receive inSight, contact an OAAP Attorney Counselor.
